A Global Capability Centre (GCC) is a captive offshore unit set up by a multinational company in India to deliver technology, operations, analytics, or R&D functions. Unlike outsourcing, GCCs are fully owned by the parent company, giving them direct control over talent and output. India hosts over 1,700 GCCs employing more than 1.9 million people.

Which Indian cities have the most Global Capability Centres?

Our index currently ranks Hyderabad first, followed by Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai — the five cities we cover in depth. How is the GCC Index city score calculated?

Each validated GCC event is weighted by event type (new centre vs. expansion), headcount announced, source confidence, sector, and recency. These signals combine into the GCC Capability Momentum Index (CMI) — a city-level score reflecting business significance, not just event volume.

How often is GCC Index data updated?

The GCC event feed is updated daily. AI-generated weekly intelligence is published every Sunday. A monthly intelligence report consolidating city leaders, sector trends, and top deals is published on the 1st of each month.
